Sweatshops are one of the most talked about topics in the world, I find this a little ironic because there is still no where near enough being done to prevent this unjust labour. I actually took a trip to the Dominican in February and met some Sweat Shop workers. I learned that they make no where near the proper amount of money, and work in hazardous and horrible conditions. This is something that no one should be subject to. Now, I totally get that it is hard not to buy sweatshop clothing, and since we think that this doesn’t effect us, we don’t care. After meeting these people, I realized how awful sweatshops are. People have ridiculous quotas to meet and workers are getting hurt due to improper machinery and not enough training. This has to stop, if we all wrote to our favourite brands who we know use sweatshops, imagine the difference we could make. Better, yet, I have stopped giving these stores my business and I feel proud of my choice. However, I do understand how hard it is to find ethically friendly clothing. Here is a list of some companies that support sweatshops: Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, Old Navy… the list is endless! I am not trying to preach, but here is something to think about: our clothing is more than just fabric, our clothing represents our ability to make life saving choices!
It is hard to find ethical clothing, but it is another way to defy gravity!
