Defying Gravity

After a life-changing trip, I have tried really hard to become an aware consumer.  It definitely isn’t easy.  Fair trade, organic, vegan options aren’t always accessible!  For those who don’t know, in order for any product be it: sugar, tea, coffee, fruit, vegetable or clothing to be deemed fair trade it must have the certification!

but-therewasawordshaker-too asked: Thanks for the follow! :D

No Prob :)

Check my Sweatshop Info page to find the Behind the Label link!

Thanks and happy summer :)

Another Behind the Label video that touches on the fact that sweatshops are not just in third world countries.  This video focuses on sweatshops in Chinatown, NYC.  These workers faced devastation after the nine/eleven crisis and it is still an ongoing battle.  This is the last of these videos that I will be posting for now because their are so many things that I want to talk about.  Please visit this site (I’ll post the link), watch and subscribe to their You Tube videos!

So, this video came from the Behind the Label Website and it features a Guatemala native and his work with Labour Unions and talks about Gap, a brand that is notorious for using sweatshops.  The Behind the Label Website has so many powerful videos, campaigns and information so please check it out!

Hello All!!

I just wanted to let you all know that I added the CLR link to my sweatshop info page, this site is really interesting so I definitely recommend that you look through it!

Thanks!

So as promised like two seconds ago, I have a page that will contain links with sweatshop information!

Thanks :)

Just a little follow-up on my last post, if you are looking for any info on sweatshops, I will be add some links to my blog!

Sweatshops are one of the most talked about topics in the world, I find this a little ironic because there is still no where near enough being done to prevent this unjust labour. I actually took a trip to the Dominican in February and met some Sweat Shop workers.  I learned that they make no where near the proper amount of money, and work in hazardous and horrible conditions.  This is something that no one should be subject to.  Now, I totally get that it is hard not to buy sweatshop clothing, and since we think that this doesn’t effect us, we don’t care.  After meeting these people, I realized how awful sweatshops are.  People have ridiculous quotas to meet and workers are getting hurt due to improper machinery and not enough training.  This has to stop, if we all wrote to our favourite brands who we know use sweatshops, imagine the difference we could make.  Better, yet, I have stopped giving these stores my business and I feel proud of my choice.  However, I do understand how hard it is to find ethically friendly clothing.  Here is a list of some companies that support sweatshops: Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, Old Navy… the list is endless!  I am not trying to preach, but here is something to think about: our clothing is more than just fabric, our clothing represents our ability to make life saving choices!

It is hard to find ethical clothing, but it is another way to defy gravity!

This is such a great song that really highlights issues in our world, while showing that there is hope for positive change!  The title really seems to speak our generation, also known as the apathetic generation, but I feel like there are so many of us who do care.  For me, this song is just trying to ask us what would happen if everyone did care!
